ABOUT YEAR 2

Funding for the second year ARCS proposal allowed the project to expand to math and science teachers in the remaining three Rock Island County high schools, as well as the middle schools. It also allowed for continued support, through ongoing meetings and networking, of the original ARCS facilitators who were trained in the first year of the project. Year two programming allowed the participating teachers to receive training in a wide range of topics, custom-selected to fit their own specialized needs and interests related to science, math, and/or technology. Each participating teacher received an allotment of grant funds to purchase materials and supplies to support the implementation of their training in their respective classrooms. As in the project?s first year, a concentrated Summer Institute program was provided for second-year participants. This extended session led to the development of a teacher-created web-based learning resource which is being shared with all Quad-City-area teachers. It includes photos and a detailed information database focused on the animal species housed at Niabi Zoo, and allows students to observe and learn about the animals at the zoo without having to leave their own classrooms.
