ABOUT YEAR 3
Funding for a third year allowed the ARCS project to expand again to include elementary-level teachers from Rock Island County public school districts in staff development programming designed to increase their technology skills and engage them in developing teaching resources associated with three different community-based facilities: Black Hawk State Park, The Quad-City Botanical Center, and Niabi Zoo. The teachers were divided into three groups, each facilitated by teachers trained in earlier ARCS Project years. The teachers in each group were provided the opportunity to select from a variety of technology-related trainings and workshops focused on best-practice science instruction. In addition, they were provided opportunities to become acquainted with the unique learning resources afforded by their respective community-based facility. In the summer of 1999, all three teacher-groups were provided the time and leadership to develop individual, or small group, teaching projects or resources associated with either Black Hawk State Park, The Botanical Center, or Niabi Zoo. These projects will eventually be posted as webpages which can be shared with other local educators and their students.
