2008 Awards Presented at Annual Banquet
The 2007-2008 Rock Island Rocks players and cheerleaders were honored at the annual banquet on April 3rd at the Quad City Botanical Center.
Academic Awards for 1st semester and/or 3rd quarter went to (Gold Honors - 3.5 GPA): D.J. Anderson, Colin Carstens, Nathan Gray, David Johnson, Chasson Randle, Cameron Ruiz, Ben Sparkman, and Adam Tarnow. (Crimson Honors - 3.0 GPA): Jordan Hathorn, Matthew Jacobs, Austin Jones, Victor Jones, Wesley Julien, Keith Keesy, Nick Lincoln, Royce Muskeyvalley, and Adan Solis. IHSA Academic Achievement Awards were presented to Colin Carstens, Ben Sparkman, David Johnson, and Adam Tarnow while David Johnson and Adam Tarnow also earned the Western Big 6 Academic All-Conference Award.
Captain Awards went to Willie Williams, David Johnson, and Ben Sparkman. Chasson Randle was voted to the Western Big 6 All-Conference team, while Chris Ghess and Ben Sparkman earned Honorable Mention.
There are two awards that are based on statistics. The Elizabeth Reid Memorial Foul Shooting Award went to Victor Jones. The Bruce Edwards Memorial Rebounding Award was won by Brandon Pullman.
The remaining awards were voted on by the players and coaches. The Most Improved Player was Chris Ghess. The James O'Melia Best Defensive Player went to Ben Sparkman. David Johnson was the recipient of the Moreland Fink Team Pride Award that is based on academics, character, leadership, etc. The Justin Sharp 3-D Award for a player's Desire, Dedication, and Determination went to David Johnson. Finally, the Zalm Gellerman Most Valuable Player Award was presented to Chasson Randle.

2008 Boys Basketball Banquet
The 2008 Boys Basketball Banquet will be held Thursday, April 3rd at the Quad City Botanical Center. Doors will open at 6:00 with dinner served starting at 6:30. Following dinner will be the program to honor our players, managers, and cheerleaders for this season.
Fans are invited to attend this special event. The cost is $10.00 for those planning to have dinner. Fans also have to opportunity to "Take a Player to Dinner." This program allows anyone to pay for one or more tickets to the banquet for players, managers, and cheerleaders.
To make reservations and/or "Take a Player to Dinner", complete a Banquet Reservation Form and return it by Tuesday, April 1st. These forms can be accessed online (click above), or by contacting Rock Island High School (793-5950, ext. 2006 or ext. 2014).

(Crimson Honors - 3.0 GPA): Chris Ghess, Matthew Jacobs, David Johnson, DQ Johnson, Brandon Loomis, Jeffrey Sharp, Adan Solis, Tony Strickland, Chris Suhr, and Adam Tarnow. IHSA Academic Achievement Awards were presented to Jeffrey Sharp, J.J. Vandygriff, and Adam Tarnow while J.J. Vandygriff and Jeffrey Sharp also earned the Western Big 6 Academic All-Conference Award.
Captain Awards went to Kevin Mitchell and J.J. Vandygriff. Kevin Mitchell was voted to the Western Big 6 All-Conference team, while J.J. Vandygriff earned Honorable Mention.
There are two awards that are based on statistics. The Elizabeth Reid Memorial Foul Shooting Award went to J.J. Vandygriff. The Bruce Edwards Memorial Rebounding Award was won by Amin Ekalino.
The remaining awards were voted on by the players and coaches. The Most Improved Player was Amin Ekalino, his second time winning this award. The James O'Melia Best Defensive Player went to Rico McLemore, Dominique Hughes, and Amin Ekalino. Jeffrey Sharp and J.J. Vandygriff were co-recipients of the Moreland Fink Team Pride Award that is based on academics, character, leadership, etc. The Justin Sharp 3-D Award for a player's Desire, Dedication, and Determination went to Jeffrey Sharp. Finally, the Zalm Gellerman Most Valuable Player Award was presented to Kevin Mitchell and J.J. Vandygriff.

2005 Boys Basketball Banquet
The 2005 Boys Basketball Banquet was held March 31st at the Quad City Botanical Center. With approximately 175 people in attendance, the players, cheerleaders, and managers were honored for their efforts and accomplishments this year.
In addition to honoring the 2005 undefeated Western Big 6 Champions and Regional Champions, individual awards were presented.
Academic Awards for 1st semester went to: (Gold Awards - 3.5 GPA) Lewis Argo, David Johnson, Andrew Lavery, Jeff Sharp, Andrew Tarnow, J.J. Vandygriff (Crimson Awards - 3.0 GPA) Amin Ekalino, Mauricio Garcia, Michael Kerres, Dustin Kirkpatrick, Josh Lovett, Anthony McKinley, DeAndre Randolph, Carolyn Slusser, Adam Tarnow, and Seth Zepeda.
Captain Awards went to Brian Maiden, Andrew Tarnow, and DeAndre Randolph. DeAndre Randolph and Brian Maiden were voted to the Western Big 6 All-Conference team, while Andrew Tarnow and Jeff Banks earned Honorable Mention.

2004 Boys Basketball Banquet
Players Honored at Annual Banquet
The 2004 Boys Basketball Banquet was attended by approximately 150 people. In addition to the introduction of the varsity players, the cheerleaders, freshman players, and the sophomore players were recognized. The evening was concluded with a video tape that included a segment honoring Justin Sharp plus highlights from the 2003-2004 season.
The Rocks completed a 19-9 season, in which they tied for 2nd place in the Western Big 6. A number of players were honored for their individual accomplishments.
This year's Tri-Captains, Sam Johnson, Dail Rice, and Howard Davis, received an award to signify their roles as captains.
Sam Johnson and Dail Rice were voted to the Western Big 6 All-Conference team, while Howard Davis earned Honorable Mention.

2003 Boys Basketball Banquet
Players Honored at Annual Banquet
The 2003 Boy Basketball Banquet was a success and attended by approximately 160 people. The night honored the cheerleaders, as well as the freshmen, sophomore, and varsity basketball players. The evening was concluded with a highlight tape from the 2002-2003 season.
Capping off a 21-8 season, which saw the Rocks place second in the Western Big 6 and reach the Sectional Championship, the season ended with many players earning honors for their hard work.
Brandin Smith and Justin Sharp both made 1st Team All-Western Big 6, while Howard Davis was named Honorable Mention.
The 2002-2003 Team Captians, Brandin Smith, Joel Lefkowitz, and Justin Sharp received awards to signify their roles as captians.

A number of awards were voted on by varsity players and members of the coaching staff. The Most Improved Players were Howard Davis and Justin Sharp. Mr. Hustle awards went to Brandin Smith and Justin Sharp. There was a three way tie for the James O'Melia Best Defensive Player between Brandin Smith, Justin Sharp, and Richard Whitley. The Moreland Fink Pride of the Community Award for academics, athletics, character, etc. was won by Joel Lefkowitz. There were Co-Zalm Gellerman Most Valuable Players, which were Brandin Smith and Justin Sharp.
