Head Varsity Coach
Thom Sigel
Coach Sigel enters his ninth season as Rock Island coach. In 2003, his second season, Rocks went 21-8, finishing 2nd in the Western Big 6 and reaching the Sectional Finals.  After a 19-9 season in 2004, the Rocks finished 19-10 in 2005, including a perfect 10-0 run on the way to the Western Big 6 Championship. The Rocks also won the Regional title. Last year the Rocks ended with a 21-10 record and reached the IHSA Class 3A "Elite 8."

He came to Rocky after a six year stint at Rock Falls, leaving as the all-time winningest coach in school history with a 127-52 record. During those six years, the Rockets won four straight Sectional titles with an Elite 8 berth in 2000 and the Class A State Championship in 1999.

He was a 1985 graduate of Rock Falls and then continued his playing career at Knox College, majoring in English. Coach Sigel then spent six years as an assistant coach at Galesburg before leaving for Rock Falls. He completed his Master’s from Western Illinois University and is currently employed as a Guidance Counselor at RIHS.

He and his wife Alicia have three children, Trey (14), Haley (12), and Colton (7).

Assistant Varsity Coach
Dan Coyne-Logan
Coach Coyne-Logan begins his sixth season on the Rock Island coaching staff. Prior to joining the RIHS staff, he coached an 8th grade RIMBA team while student teaching at Rocky. He is excited and honored to be a part of a program with so much tradition.

Coach Coyne-Logan is a 1998 graduate of Alleman High School where he was a member of two Final Four teams. He continued his education at Northern Illinois University, earning a liberal arts degree in history. Currently he is employed as a social studies teacher at Washington Junior High School.

He and his wife Jennifer were married in 2007. He has two step-children, Jonathon (17) and Emmy (12).

Assistant Varsity Coach
Ed Veasey
Coach Veasey moved to the varsity assistant position eight years ago after seven years coaching at numerous levels in the Rock Island system. He is 1990 graduate of Rocky and then continued his basketball and baseball careers at Wartburg College.

After earning a B.A. in English Education with a minor in Communications, Coach Veasey earned his Master’s from Western Illinois University. In 2009 he completed his Education Specialist Degree through Western Illinois University.

He is employed as an Assistant Principal at Rock Island High School. He has two lovely daughters, Jada (10) and Zoe (7).

Assistant Varsity Coach
Toney Hickman

Toney Hickman officially returned to Rock Island Basketball two years ago as an Assistant Varsity Coach. For more than a decade, he has successfully taught hundreds of young men and women the game of basketball. He has recently coached our junior high RIMBA team and has previously coached several High School AAU Basketball teams, all of which enjoyed high levels of success. "My desire is help teach our players excellence through teamwork, mental toughness and hard work."
Coach Hickman achieved All-State Basketball honors while playing at Rock Island. He received a Division I basketball scholarship at Western Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor Business degree. Coach Hickman is husband to Mrs. Janice Hickman and is a father of four children. He is currently employed at Alcoa in Operations.

Head Sophomore Coach
Chad Baker
Coach Baker begins his sixth year on the Rock Island staff. He spent his first two years as the sophomore assistant before moving to the head sophomore position three years ago. In his first year the sophomores went 21-2 and won the Western Big 6, and have followed that up with a 19-4 record and conference runner-up, with a 16-4 record and conferenece championship last year.

Coach Baker brings fifteen years of coaching experience to this position. He got his start at his alma mater, Moline, coaching in the MBA and junior high, then continuing on to the high school at the freshman and sophomore levels. After five years at Moline, he moved to Rockridge for two years. He then went to Orion with former Rocky coach Dennis Weiss as a freshmen coach and varsity assistant.

Coach Baker is a 1993 graduate of Moline where he played for legendary coach Jerry Leggett. After Moline, he attended Black Hawk College and started his coaching career. He is currently employed as the Work Comp Administrator at The Sedona Group's corporate headquarters in Moline.  He has one son, Braeden (5), a fiance Tracey and her daughter Kiely (14).

Asst. Sophomore Coach
Damon Colvin
Coach Colvin is in his ninth year as a basketball coach at Rocky. He has been instrumental in introducing the freshmen to our high school basketball program and developing them for the future as the head freshman coach. He will assist at the sophomore level for the fourth consecutive year.

He has coached in the YMCA league, RIMBA, and at Horace Mann Choice School. He has also been very active coaching baseball for Little League, Rock Island Red Sox, and RIHS. Coach Colvin is a 1994 graduate of Rocky and has continued his education at the University of Illinois, Black Hawk College, and Western Illinois University.

He is currently employed as a Personal Banker at Wells Fargo. He and his wife, Chantill were married in March of 2002 and have a daughter, Chanel (5).

Asst. Sophomore Coach
Keith Beck
Coach Beck is in his third year with the Rock Island Rocks. He has coached junior high travelling teams for two years and is thrilled to be a part of the Rock Island Program.

Coach Beck graduated from Moline High School in 2001 and furthered his education at St. Ambrose University. In 2006 he graduated with and Education Degree in Physical Education. He is currently employed at First National Bank.

Asst. Sophomore Coach
Brandon Colvin
Coach Colvin had been helping the program in a number of ways while attending college. With his graduation last December, he has been able to devote more time to the program helping primarily with the sophomore team.

Coach Colvin was a 2003 graduate of Rock Island High School and will be compled his degree in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University in December, 2008.

Head Freshmen Coach
Jorge Acosta
Coach Acosta starts his third year as the head freshmen coach after coaching in the RIMBA program for one year. He led the team to a 19-2 in his first season.

He is a 2001 graduate of Rock Falls High School where he had an outstanding three sport career. In basketball, he was a three year starter, and was the point guard on the 1999 State Championship team and the 2000 Elite 8 team. He earned All-State honors twice in basketball and once in baseball and football.

He graduated from Augustana College in 2005 with a degree in Business Administration and a Political Science minor. He played one year of basketball and was a four year letterwinner in baseball while at Augustana.

Coach Acosta is currently employed in the Admissions Office at Augustana College and also serves as an assistant baseball coach.

Asst. Freshmen Coach
Alex Washington
Coach Washington begins his first season on the Rock Island coaching staff. Washington grew up in Wheeling, IL. He graduated from Wheeling High School (2005), where he was a four year varsity basketball player and was named 2004 MSL East Player of the Year as well as earning All-Conference and All-Area recognition two years in a row.

He then took his talents to Augustana College where he helped his team to three consecutive CCIW championships, two conference tournament championships, and also participated in three straight NCAA tournaments. Additionally, he twice shared the team's "Defensive Player of the Year" award.

Coach Washington completed his degree and graduated in 2009 with a B.A. in Business Management and a minor in Political Science. He is thrilled and eager to be a part of the Rock Island High School basketball staff and looks forward to helping contribute to a great year.
