Rock Island vs. Geneseo

Rock Island saw its season end at the hands of #1 seeded and host Geneseo in the Regional Championship game. The Rocks held a couple of leads early in the game until the Maple Leafs gained control and led 16-11 after the first quarter. The Rocks could not sustain a run during the second quarter to gain any momentum, and some early fould trouble hurt as well.

During the third quarter, Rocky managed to cut an eleven point deficit to 33-30, but Geneseo managed to regroup and a three as the third quarter ended pushed the lead back to 10 points. The Leafs were able to take care of the ball and hit their free throws to gain the win.

Chasson Randle was the only player to score in double figures with 15 points, while Ben Sparkman and Chris Ghess added 8 points each. Brandon Pullman grabbed 6 boards.

Rock Island opened post-season play with a win over Dunlap in the Regional semi-final. The Rocks earned a match-up with top-seeded and host Geneseo by jumping on the Eagles early and putting the game out of reach with a big third quarter. Brandon Pullman ignited Rocky early with nine points in the first quarter.

After extending the lead to 28-21 at the half, the Rocks turned up the pressure and outscored Dunlap 21-7 in the decisive third frame. Pullman led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points while David Johnson (12) also reached double figures. Ben Sparkman (9), Chris Ghess (8), and Chasson Randle (7) also chipped in. Sparkman added 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals while Pullman added 8 boards and 3 assists.

Rock Island missed out on the chance to derail East Moline's conference championship plans on the final night of the regular season. The Rocks jumped to an early lead and maintained it throughout the first half. However, the Panthers controlled the third quarter and took a nine point lead into the final eight minutes. Rocky was able to get the lead to four in the last minute, but an open three pointer wouldn't fall and sealed their fate.

Chasson Randle paced the Rocks with 18 points,11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals while Brandon Pullman added 15 points and 7 boards.

Rock Island came out sluggish as Alleman grabbed the lead from the start of the game. The Rocks showed some life, taking a short-lived lead in the second quarter, and again tied the game at 22 in the third quarter. However, the Pioneers answered and took an eight point lead into the final eight minutes. The Rocks got as close as three points, but weren't able to get the defensive stops they needed to get the win.

Chasson Randle scored 14 points while Chris Ghess and Adam Tarnow chipped in 8 apiece. Ghess grabbed 5 boards while Julian Mayfield scored 6 to go with 5 rebounds.

Rock Island fell behind the conference leaders from the start of the game, and Quincy was able to answer any runs that the Rocks could muster throughout the game. After trailing by 10 at the half, David Johnson hit a trifecta to cut the lead to seven, but the Blue Devils contolled much of the remainder of the third quarter to extend the lead to 15. Rocky had a couple of more runs, but couldn't get over the hump as the Blue Devils ended up shooting almost 60% from the field for the game.

Johnson scored 15 points to lead the way while Chasson Randle reached double figures with 14 points and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Rock Island bounced back from Friday's tough loss with the non-conference win over Harlem. After a slow start for the first four minutes, the Rocks grabbed an early lead that they extended to 18 points at the half. The second half didn't start any better for the Huskies, as Rocky built the lead to 64-37 after three quarters and cruised to the win.

Chasson Randle scored 19 points while Brandon Pullman (12), Ben Sparkman (11), and Chris Ghess (9) all chipped in. Sparkman grabbed 5 boards and had 3 steals. Pullman dished off 5 assists.

Rock Island dug an early hole against the visitors, falling behind 20-9 until David Johnson nailed a three at the buzzer to cut it to 8. The Rocks were able to get within three points before settling for a five point halftime deficit. In the third quarter, the Rocks were able to tie the game at 30 on a Brandon Pullman three pointer. The Maroons were able to maintain the lead afer three quarters, and the Rocks missed opportunities down the stretch to get the win.

Pullman paced the scoring attack with 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Chris Ghess scored 10 and pulled down 4 boards. Ben Sparkman and DQ Johnson each had 3 assists and 2 steals.

Rock Island had opportunities to beat the state's #9 team in Class 3A, but a couple of bad stretches killed their chances, especially in the third quarter. The Lions grabbed the lead after the first eight minutes, but the Rocks responded in the second quarter, sparked by Brandon Pullman's 10 points to lead by seven at intermission.

The third quarter saw a huge momentum shift as Central regained the lead while Rocky tried to regroup for the final quarter. They were able to right the ship but could never catch Central. As the Rocks would cut the lead to two late in the game, Central had the answers and free throws to hang on.

DQ Johnson again paced the Rocks with 12 points while Pullman and Chasson Randle added 10. Chris Ghess contributed 9 points and 5 boards.

Rock Island evened its conference record with the home win over Galesburg. Minus two guards, the Rocks used some good minutes from players filling different roles to hang on for the win. After a sloppy first half, the Rocks found themselves down 22-21 at the half.

After the break, Rocky got a lead that they sustained for the remainder of the game. The Streaks wouldn't go away in the second half, but the Rocks were able to make the plays to gain the victory.

DQ Johnson was solid all night, scoring 17 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Despite sitting much of the first half in foul trouble, Chasson Randle added 12 and Chris Ghess 8, and Adam Tarnow pitched in 8 off the bench. Randle and Willie Williams dished out 4 assists each.

Rock Island jumped to an early lead and extended the lead during the lead to take the non-conference victory. Rocky's defensive pressure was the key to the early lead and seemed to wear down the Rockets as the game went on. Victor Jones made a steal and converted the lay-up at the halftime to gain the Rocks some momentum they continued into the third quarter where they put the game away.

Chasson Randle paced a balanced scoring attack with 12 points while Brandon Pullman (11), Chris Ghess (11), DQ Johnson (10), and Adam Tarnow (9) all contributed as fourteen Rocks scored. Pullman also added 12 boards and 5 assists while Ghess grabbed 9 rebounds.

Rock Island earned a hard-fought road conference game at East Moline. After missing some easy opportunities to jump to an early lead in the first quarter, the Rocks got going in the second quarter to lead by eight at the break. The second quarter was sparked with defensive intensity and some contributions off the bench.

The Panthers responded in the final quarter to send the game into overtime. Rocky was able to respond in the extra session to salt away the big road win. Chris Ghess was huge all night, ending with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Ben Sparkman scored 8 points to go along with 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists in a solid all-around performance. Chasson Randle dished out 6 assists and Brandon Pullman grabbed 6 boards.

Rock Island made it a sweep for the weekend with the win at Maine South. The Rocks jumped out early with a solid offensive first half. The Hawks wouldn't go away and kept making runs. Rocky was able to sustain the lead and ultimately execute well down the stretch to extend the lead to double digits.

Chasson Randle paced a balanced attack with 16 points while Brandon Pullman (14), Ben Sparkman (11), and Chris Ghess (10) all reached double figures and DQ Johnson just missed with 8 points. Ghess grabbed 6 boards and Sparkman dished out 5 assists.

Rock Island came away with a Western Big 6 road win after a cold-shooting first half. The Pioneers were able to control the game during the first half while the Rocks couldn't put points on the board. After the break, the Rocks were sparked by Ben Sparkman and Chris Ghess. They began to get the momentum during the third quarter even though they still trailed by one. The Rocks then took the lead in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Ghess ended with 16 points and Sparkman chipped in 12 points and 5 steals. Chasson Randle scored 8 and DQ Johnson scored 6 and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Rock Island dug themselves a hole early against a good defensive Schaumburg team. Schaumburg jumped to an early lead and extended it to 14 at the half. After trailing by as many as 17 points, the Rocks finally started to attack offensively and got back into the game. Rocky's second half charge got them within 5 points on three different occasions, but couldn't capitalize on some opportunities, and the Saxons were able to answer to hold on for the win.

Chasson Randle paced the way with 19 points while DQ Johnson scored 16 off the bench. Ben Sparkman added 15. Randle, Sparkman, and Victor Jones grabbed 4 rebounds each while Randle and Jones each dished off 3 assists.

Rock Island won this make-up game, snowed out from early December. The Rocks jumped to an early lead in the game with one of their better offensive quarters of the season. However, they relaxed during the second quarter as the Wildcats showed that they were not going to give in and shot the ball well in the second quarter to cut the lead to two points.

The Rocks took control the first three minutes of the second half. Although Rocky couldn't put Clemente away for good because of poor free throw shooting, they maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. Brandon Pullman put together a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds while Chris Ghess added 17 points and 6 boards. Ben Sparkman (9), Adam Tarnow (8), and Chasson Randle (8) all contributed to the scoring.

Rock Island ended the tournament by winning their last two games, this one in dramatic fashion. Rocky jumped to an early lead. The bigger and patient Ironmen stayed with their game plan and cut the lead to two points at the half as the game turned into a battle. With the third quarter at the same pace, the game ended up tied heading to the final frame.

After trailing by 3 points, the Rocks hung tough and after a Ben Sparkman steal, ended up with the ball in the final minute. After a miss and subsequent travel on Normal, Rocky had the ball out of bounds with just seconds remaining. Sparkman drove the lane and hit a pull up with 2.6 seconds remaining. After Rocky stole the inbounds pass, they had sealed the win.

Chasson Randle was the only Rock in double figures with 10 points while Brandon Pullman and Chris Ghess added 9. In addition to the game winnner, Sparkman also grabbed 5 rebounds.

Rock Island was forced to play a 9:00 PM game after losing earlier in the day. The Rocks responded with much more intensity than the previous game and jumped to an early lead with good defensive play. They built the lead to 11 at one point before the Streaks battled back to make it a two point game at the half.

The Rocks managed to respond in the third quarter and took control once again. With a solid defensive effort and offensive execution, they were able to pull away for the win.

Chasson Randle scored 13 points, grabbed 8 boards, and dished out 3 assists in a fine all-around game. Chris Ghess added 11 points while Brandon Pullman scored 9 and had 7 rebounds. Victor Jones had 4 steals and 2 deflections to spark the defensive energy for the Rocks.

Rock Island was not ready to play in this loser's bracket game and fell behind 7-0 to start the game. Rocky seemed to get some momentum when an Adam Tarnow trifecta cut the lead to five just before the half. However, the Irish nailed a three of their own at the horn to take an eight point lead into the break. The Rocks wouldn't get any closer as Notre Dame was able to spread the floor some to wear the Rocks down as the game went on.

No Rocks reached double figures. Chasson Randle scored 7 while Julian Mayfield, Chris Ghess, and Tarnow all chipped in 6 points.

Rock Island battled the tournament's number 1 seed for most of the game, but the start of the third quarter spelled doom for the Rocks as the Meteors extended the halftime lead to double digits with a run early in the second half. Rocky had a couple of chances and got close on a couple of occasions, only to see DeLaSalle get a big basket when needed.

The Rocks got double figure scoring from Chasson Randle (12), Julian Mayfield (10), and Chris Ghess (10). Ghess completed a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds. Randle grabbed 5 boards while Brandon Pullman contibuted 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Ben Sparkman dished out 4 assists and had 2 steals.

Rock Island got a big win over previously unbeaten Sterling to snap their losing streak. The Rocks had a great defensive effort from the start as they jumped to a 10-5 lead after the first eight minutes. The game then turned into a half court struggle as both defenses tightened up in the second quarter. The Golden Warriors showed some spark in the third quarter to grab the lead.

However, the Rocks showed some grit in a situation the has given them trouble this year and battled back to take the lead. Down 35-30, Chasson Randle scored five straight points to tie the game. Then with a one point lead and Sterling looking for the lead in the last minute, Victor Jones made a big steal to help seal the win. Brandon Pullman led the way with 16 points and Randle ended with 11.

Rock Island faced last year's Iowa 4A State Runner-ups and Bettendorf played like the experienced team that they are. After getting behind 8-0 out of the gates, the Rocks responded to cut the lead to 14-10 after the first quarter. After missing on an attempt to tie the game at 14, the Bulldogs used a 9-0 run in building a 30-16 lead at the half.

Bettendorf's size and stingy defense allowed them to extend the lead throughout the second half. Chasson Randle was the only Rocky player to reach double figures with 11 points. Brandon Pullman scored 8 points and grabbed 4 boards.

Rock Island had one of their better performances of the season for three quarters, but weren't able to put Quincy away and suffered the Western Big 6 loss. Ben Sparkman came up with two big plays at the end of the first quarter, the second being a steal and half court shot to give the Rocks a 14-11 lead after eight minutes. Rocky was able to extend the lead to 12 during the second quarter, settling for a 10 point halftime lead.

The Blue Devils started to chip away in the third frame, and got to within three points heading into the final quarter. They finally took the lead at 44-43 with just under four minutes to play and were able to hang on and hit free throws down the strectch to pull away.

Brandon Pullman scored 10 and hauled in 9 rebounds. Sparkman and Chasson Randle each contributed 8 points and 4 boards, while Sparkman also dished out 3 assists.

Rock Island suffered another road conference loss at Moline. Rocky grabbed an early lead paced by nine points from Chasson Randle, only to see Moline grab the lead back at the first quarter buzzer. The Maroons extended the lead to four points at the half and extended the lead to double digits in the third quarter.

The Rocks battled to within 45-41 and within 4 points on two other occasions but couldn't capitalize down the stretch. Chris Ghess scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds while Randle ended with 13 points. DQ Johnson collected 6 boards and added 6 points off the bench. Ben Sparkman dished out 4 assists.

Rock Island lost a tough road conference game to open the regular season at Galesburg. In a game that went back and forth all night, the Rocks couldn't capitalize on opportunities to grab the road win. Rocky had a good look at the end of regulation that was deflected away. In the second overtime, the Rocks had a five point lead before the Silver Streaks hit a three pointer and a layup off a blocked shot to tie the game and send it to a second overtime.

Brandon Pullman paced the Rocks with 16 points and grabbed 13 boards. DQ Johnson scored 12 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Victor Jones tallied 11 points and added 7 boards.

Peoria Richwoods vs. Rock Island
at RI-Milan Booster Club Thanksgiving Tournament

Rocky finished the tournament on the short end of a 56-51 score against tournament runner-up Richwoods. The game was close throughout the first half, and went to the locker room tied at 25 after Chasson Randle hit a three pointer.

The Knights grabbed control in the third quarter and took an eleven point lead into the final eight minutes. The Rocks youthful group showed some character by making some big plays to get back into the game. They eventually cut the lead to 3 points and missed a chance to tie when they were called for a foul in a loose ball scrum. Richwoods converted both free throws to seal the win.

Victor Jones scored 15 to lead the way for the Rocks while Brandon Pullman added 11 points and 9 boards. Randle chipped in 7 points. Chris Ghess and Brandon Pullman were both selected to the All-Tournament team.

Rock Island bounced back from a tough Friday night game to jump on the Mighymen early in the game. After building the lead to seven, the Rocks turned the ball over a number of times late in the half and went to the locker room down by two. Dunbar extended the lead to 12 after three quarters as the Rocks again had some trouble handling the ball.

Brandon Pullman scored 17 points and grabbed 8 boards in a losing effort. DQ Johnson just missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds while sophomore Victor Jones scored 9 in his first varsity start. Ben Sparkman had 6 assists and scored 6 points.
