2008-2009 Season Schedule Posted

The 2008-2009 Rock Island Basketball season schedule is now posted on the Schedule page. Two shootouts that the Rocks are playing in were delayed in finalizing their schedules, but now everything is set for the upcoming season.One of the shootouts is The Shootout at the Hall, played at Assembly Hall in Champaign, home of the Illinois Fighting Illini. Although the Rocks gave up a home game, it was a great opportunity to play in this historic venue. The Rocks drew Waukegan in an afternoon game. Rocky also plays Davenport Central at the Iowa-Illinois Shootout at Augustana.
The season tips off at the Rock Island - Milan Thanksgiving Classic on November 26th. Once again, it will be a strong field. Rock Island, Peoria Richwoods, Aurora West, Chicago Julian, and Chicago Dunbar will be competing in this year's tournament.

Gene Gipe, long time equipment manager for the Rock Island Rocks Basketball program, passed away July 31st after battling numerous health issues. Gene was a loyal supporter of the program and loved the time he spent with the players and coaches. He will be greatly missed, and condolences go out to his family.May 1, 2008
The 2008 Runnin' Rocks Basketball Camp information is now released. There are three sessions of camp. The 2008 Boys Basketball Banquet was held April 3rd at the Quad City Botanical Center. With over 160 people in attendance, the players, cheerleaders, and managers were honored for their efforts and accomplishments this year. Click here for more information regarding the awards presented.

The 2008 Boys Basketball Banquet will be held Thursday, April 3rd at the Quad City Botanical Center. Doors will open at 6:00 with dinner served starting at 6:30. Following dinner will be the program to honor our players, managers, and cheerleaders for this season.
Fans are invited to attend this special event. The cost is $10.00 for those planning to have dinner. Fans also have to opportunity to "Take a Player to Dinner." This program allows anyone to pay for one or more tickets to the banquet for players, managers, and cheerleaders.
To make reservations and/or "Take a Player to Dinner", complete a Banquet Reservation Form and return it by Tuesday, April 1st. These forms can be accessed online (click above), or by contacting Rock Island High School (793-5950, ext. 2006 or ext. 2014).

Rock Island will open post-season play by facing Dunlap on Wednesday, February 27th at 7:30. The host Maple Leafs are the #1 seed, followed by Rock Island and Dunlap. Alleman (#4) and Galesburg (#5) will tip things off Monday, Feburary 25th with the winner facing Geneseo on Tuesday, February 26th. The winners from Tuesday and Wednesday will play for the Regional Championship on Friday, February 29th with the winner advancing to the Galesburg Sectional.

Rock Island will play December 26th at 2:30 against Chicago DeLaSalle (7-2). The game will be played at the Shirk Center, on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan. For complete information on the event, visit the State Farm Classic website.

Aurora West went 4-0 to claim the title of this year's RI-Milan Booster Club Thanksgiving Classic. Peoria Richwoods and Chicago Dunbar both finished 3-1, with Richwoods claiming second based on defensive average.

With the post season run of the Rocky football team continuing, the annual Rock Island Boys Basketball Red-Gold scrimmages are being moved to Friday, November 16th at Rock Island Fieldhouse.
The evening starts with the freshmen scrimmaging at 6:15, followed by the sophomore team at 6:45. The 2007-2008 Runnin' Rocks will take the floor around 7:30. There will be a meeting for players and parents at 5:45 in the cafeteria.
Admission for the evening is only $2 for adults and $1 for students. There will be contests during the evening, and concessions will be available.
