Red-Gold Scrimmages Set for November 19th

Rock Island Boys Basketball will preview their 2011-2012 teams on Saturday, November 19th at the annual Red-Gold Scrimages.
The scrimmages start will start with our Future Rocks teams at 5:00. This will be followed by the freshmen, sophomores, and the varsity. In addition to the scrimmages, there will be giveaways and contests. Admission is only $2.

2011 Thanksgiving Tournament Schedule Set

The 2011 Rock Island - Milan Booster Club Thanksgiving Classic schedule has been set. The tournament is a six team field with Aurora West, Peoria Richwoods, Chicago Tilden, East Moline (United Twp.), and Chicago Bogan joining the host Rocks.
The tournament format wil have one session (2 games) Wednesday night with one session (3 games) Friday and two sessions (3 games each) on Saturday. The complete schedule is posted on the Thanksgiving Tournament link.

2010 Basketball Banquet Set for March 31st

The 2010 Boys Basketball Banquet will be held Wednesday, March 31st at the Quad City Botanical Center. Doors will open at 6:00 with dinner served starting at 6:30. Following dinner will be the program to honor our players, managers, and cheerleaders for this season.
Fans are invited to attend this special event. The cost is $10.00 for those planning to have dinner. Fans also have to opportunity to "Take a Player to Dinner." This program allows anyone to pay for one or more tickets to the banquet for players, managers, and cheerleaders.
To make reservations and/or "Take a Player to Dinner", complete a Banquet Reservation Form and return it by Tuesday, March 30th. These forms can be accessed online (click above), or by contacting Rock Island High School (793-5950, ext. 2006 or ext. 2014).

50 Years For the Fieldhouse!

Rock Island High School hosted the first boys basketball game in the historic Fieldhouse on December 4, 1959. This year, on December 4, 2009, the Rocks host the United Township Panthers in a Western Big 6 basketball game. This weekend will be a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Fieldhouse.
There will be a brief ceremony prior to the varsity game on December 4th. Some speakers that spoke 50 years ago, and players from that game will speak. Following the game there will be a social at the Rock Island VFW. Prior to the game on December 4th and the game on December 5th (vs. Geneseo) there will be receptions in the RIHS cafeteria. On December 5th teams that have reached the "Sweet 16" during the past 50 years will be recognized.

Sad Loss For Rocks Basketball

Gene Gipe, long time equipment manager for the Rock Island Rocks Basketball program, passed away July 31st after battling numerous health issues. Gene was a loyal supporter of the program and loved the time he spent with the players and coaches. He will be greatly missed, and condolences go out to his family.
