Mr. Carroll's Math Class
Our class will cover math concepts from the following areas:
Number Sense
Estimation and Measurement
Algebra
Geometry
Data Analysis and Probability
In order to maintain understanding in all areas covered throughout the year, our class will keep a structured schedule. Students will be expected to have their Math Notebook and Folder everyday. Everyday will begin with review work that should be completed in their Math Notebook. Students will be expected to keep a folder or trapper to keep all homework available for review.
Homework Policy:
Students should expect a daily assignment almost everyday of the school year. The assignment will not be lengthy. Students should have an opportunity to begin their assignment in class everyday to have time to clear up questions or concerns before they leave.
It is essential that students keep up with their homework assignments. The independent practice will help achieve mastery. Homework will be graded with a 10 point scale.
Here is a breakdown of homework scores:
10 - homework is complete with little or no errors
9 - homework is complete with a few errors
8 - homework is complete, but a lot of mistakes are made
As you can see, if homework is completed on time, students should receive no less than an 8 for a score. I will not accept late work without a proper excuse!
Grading Policy:
In order for students to be successful, they need to be present for class whenever possible. When students attend class regularly and turn in their homework, they should have no problem passing tests and ultimately, the class.
The breakdown for grades includes:
50% - Daily Grade (participation, homework, etc.)
50% - Assessment (quizzes and tests)
