Size: 30-120 cm (1-4 feet).
Leaves and Flowers: Leaves are arrow-shaped and vary from broad to narrow and lobed to unlobed. Leaves can be from 5-40 cm (2-16 inches).
Flowers are white in whorls of 3, 1.6 cm (2/3") wide. It has 3 white petals and blooms from July to September.
Habitat: Wet sites, shallow water along lakes, streams, marshes, swamps.
Range: Throughout the US.
Use: Rhizomes, horizontal underground stems, produce an edible starchy tuber. Native groups would dig these to use as food; they were known as "duck potatoes".
