Size: 22.5 - 30 m (75 - 100 ft.), large canopy tree.

Leaves and Flowers: Leaves are lance shaped, alternate on a branch, and are compound. Leaflets number 15-23 and are pinnate (like a feather with opposite leaflets on a shaft).

Flowers are yellow-green. Male flowers are drooping, pencil-like and 7-22 cm (3-5 inches) long. Female flowers are 2-5 flowered oval spikes with yellow-green stigmas tinged with red. Monoecious - both are found on the same Box Elder
