Size: 45-120 cm (1 1/2-4 ft.).

Leaves and Flowers: Leaves are 1.5-4 mm wide and grass-like.

Flowers are very small greenish-brown clusters. It blooms July - September.

Habitat: Wet ground of shores, swamps, ditches.

Range: Newfoundland to North Dakota, south to Texas and Florida.

Use: These are two of the most common rushes found in this area. They were woven together to make mats and baskets, this was one of the most important activities of the Sauk and Mesquakie (Sac and Fox).
