Jack in the Pulpit
Arisaema triphyllum (Arum or calla family)
Also named: Indian turnip

This plant has very unusual and identifiable foliage. There are one or two leaves, each having three rounded or oval leaves. These leaves (leaflets), can be up to seven inches long and are smooth. A separate stem holds the flower. This flower is often seen as the "preacher" or "jack" in the pulpit. The "preacher" is in the "pulpit" which extends over the top as though it is a roof or canopy. The flower is green and there are no sepals or petals. There are four stamen and one pistil. The plant grows in the deep woods and has red berries later in the summer.
