Quincy Officials Laud RI Band and Supporters
October 2001. Dear Editor, The Argus: On Saturday, Oct. 20, I along with many other citizens of Quincy had the privilege of hearing and watching 18 talented high school bands perform in the annual Quincy High School Octoberest. We all complimented the highly talented, well-disciplined musicians from Rock Island High School... The attitude and behavior exhibited by your band and followers was a delight to witness. Marching Rocks are the Toast of the Town
October 2001. They are affectionately called the Pride of Rock Island and Milan. Last weekend they showed the Quincy community why they have earned such a prestigious moniker. "They" are the Rock Island High School marching band, recognized throughout Illinois as one of the finest high school bands in the state. Under the direction of Steve Scherer, the marching Rocks captured the grand championship at the annual Quincy High school Octoberfest last weekend...

RIHS Marching Band Named Grand Champion
October 20, 2001. The Rock Island High School marching band was named grand champion of the overall festival at a Quincy parade and field invitational last weekend... The band won several other awards, including gold medals for its parade and field shows in the advanced-band category, and an outstanding band selection in the field show. Its color guard and drum majors also received top awards...

Association Plays the Right Tune
Labor Day Parade 2001. More than 20 years of sewing on buttons and stitching in hems have kept Elsie Tucker's fingers dancing for the Rock Island Music Association. She started repairing band uniforms when her three children were in music programs. When they graduated, she stayed. Today, her two grandchildren and hundreds of other musical students benefit from her volunteering...
