The
Environmental Action Club of Rock Island High School is a
growing group of dedicated students
committed to preserving and enhancing the environment in our school and
community. We founded Rocky's paper and can recycling program
and are responsible for its collection each week. In the community we
are actively involved in invasive species removal at Black Hawk Park
and Smith Island. You can find us helping at Living Lands & and
Waters events such as tree plantings and the X-Stream clean up. We also
compete in the annual Envirothon. This past summer ten members
went to Costa Rica
to work on a turtle preserve and learn about ecology. If you have any
questions or comments about E.A.C. or
suggestions for this website please email me at RyanNoe@gmail.com.
If you have a volunteering opportunity or would like to work with us
in some other way please contact the club's sponsor, Nancy Wolber.
E.A.C. was formed in 1980 when twin brothers at
Rocky suggested it to physics teacher Gary Wolber. They teamed up with
former biology teacher Bob Motz to form E.A.C. and start paper
recycling.
The club was also run by biology teacher, Janet Moline, until she
retired in 2004. The club is now sponsored by global biology teacher
Nancy Wolber.
