Our district has many teachers using
technology to help their students learn more effectively. I have seen Rock
Island classrooms where lessons have been customized to meet the needs of
individual students and others where multimedia presentations have captured
the complete attention of students. If your class has a technology project
you would like to demonstrate, be sure to read the article about TECH 2003!

SPAM
|
|

|
|
Spam is unsolicited email also known as junk mail or
UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email.) It is by far the biggest complaint of
email users. We have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of SPAM
entering our system, probably due to a greater use of email. If you have
ever given your email address out online, you are probably included in a
mailing list for SPAM.
We are investigating ways to block SPAM
from our email server. Unfortunately, most low cost solutions also have
the risk of bouncing legitimate messages. Please let the technology
department know if you receive large amounts of SPAM. This would mean 5
or more unsolicited messages per day. If the problem continues to grow,
we will consider purchasing a filter.
We also are seeing an increase in our own
SPAM. Please do not send inappropriate messages to users in our system.
This includes advertisements for non-district organizations, jokes, and
virus warnings. Unless someone has asked you to send the message, please
do not forward messages to users in our district address book.
By now some readers might be saying,
"Isn't this email SPAM? I didn't ask you to send it to me?" If
you do not want to receive the technology updates, there is a link to
unsubscribe at the bottom of this e-mail and also on the web version of
TechLinks.

Technology Help Desk
|
|

|
|
The technology department has an online help desk
that is staffed from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day school is in
session. Clicking on the Live Help icon will send a request to open a
chat with a technician. We are able to solve many computer problems while
you're online.

Online help is available for the Renaissance Learning programs used in many of our classrooms. Vicki Todd has prepared a website with answers to common questions such as Enrolling and Unenrolling Students, Clearing a Student Lock, Adding Houghton Mifflin Titles in AR, Deleting an AR Test from a Student Record, Changing the TOPS Report Preference, and Stopping a Quiz or Test.
