| STAR-Online |

STAR-Online is an online, interactive, self-paced, staff
development model which allows teachers to gain
knowledge and skills in the applications of educational
technology. Through STAR-Online, teachers can
participate in quality online training modules, access
resources and an online portfolio as well as network and
collaborate with other teachers nationwide.
The Rock Island School District STAR-Online license
number is RM108292 (the first 2 are letters the rest are
numbers).
Instructions to join STAR-Online:
- Go to www.star-online.org.
- Participants who have never logged in to STAR-Online will need to select "New Registration CLICK HERE" under the Login box and enter the district's Site License number (RM108292) when prompted.
- Returning participants will simply enter the ID/Password they used previously to continue to enter work into their portfolio. The site will then prompt them to enter their new Site License number. They will be directed on what to do next (Registration, ID/Password, Pre-survey).
- Once they have taken the Pre-survey, which is a tool designed to help them determine which of the modules to start, click on Virtual Teaching and Learning Community from the list of staff development modules or VTLC from the navigation bar.

| In-District SPAM |
 |
In the last issue of TechLinks I explained what SPAM is
and what can be done to limit SPAM. Any unwanted e-
mail message can be considered SPAM. Please be careful
when you forward or reply to an e-mail message. We are
still having a problem with messages being sent to
groups like "All Teachers" and "Entire District".
Please do not forward messages through our district
email about angels, Irish friendships, Bill Gates giving
away money, or amazing experiences. If you want to
forward messages like these, send the mail to private
email addresses and do not use the district address
book.

Every school has their own online calendar. The
usefulness of the calendar depends upon events being
entered regularly. If you or your class is sponsoring an
activity, be sure to add the event to your school
calendar.
Anyone can enter an event on the calendar, but the
event
will not be seen by the public until it is approved by your
building calendar administrator.
Check your building calendar now.
